It’s just an enzyme, no biggie. It likes to polymerize RNA. Usually, only the template is also RNA.

๐ŸŒ What is the RdRp summit?

The โ€œRdRp Summitโ€ is a discussion-centric event that aims to foster reproducibility, collaboration, and interoperability in omics-based RNA virus discovery.

Recognizing the central role of RdRp in RNA virus research, a global and interdisciplinary community of scientists established the RdRp Summit in 2023 (Valencia, Spain), providing an open forum for discussing detection algorithms, data interoperability, and functional inference; this initiative has since evolved into a recurring international meeting, with the second RdRp Summit held in 2025 (Lisbon, Portugal) as a satellite event of ViBioM 2025, where participants collectively advanced benchmarking efforts, structural and phylogenetic analyses, and best practices for large-scale RNA virus discovery.

๐ŸŒ Community Projects

The RdRp Summit currently hosts four ongoing community projects, each driven by open collaboration:

  1. Benchmarking Challenge(s)
  2. Virusโ€“Host Relationship Inference
  3. RNA Virus Journal Club
  4. Structure-Guided Phylogeny and Functional Analysis

Each project is community-led and welcomes new participants! Whether you are interested in data benchmarking, evolutionary relationships, or integrating structural information into viral phylogenetics, there is a place for you to contribute.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Most of the discussions take place on Slack, and everyone is encouraged to join and share ideas. Wanna join us but can’t find the link? Send us a message through the contact form below!

๐Ÿงฌ For the RNA Virus Journal Club, we are also collecting speaker nominations for upcoming sessions.
